Having recently moved from Melbourne, Florida to the Phoenix area, Kathy Hunter, a ceramic artist since the early 1990’s, gets much of her artistic inspirations and ideas from her travel studies in England, Scotland, and Japan. Being half-Japanese, she was naturally drawn to the oriental shapes and styles of pottery and the “raku” method of firing.

She has won numerous awards for her raku pieces at art shows and exhibitions. Some of her works have been featured in museums, galleries and gift shops.

Working mostly with raku clay, she has been known to also work in porcelain and stoneware as well. In 2004, she discovered a new clay medium, Precious Metal Clay, from Japan (of course!) in which to make fine silver jewelry. She has received her instructor’s certification and now teaches classes as well as creates jewelry. She has also won awards and is featured in a gallery for her Precious Metal Clay Jewelry.

Still keeping with my "art expressions in clay", I am now working in both the pottery clay - stoneware, porcelain, and raku clay; and also the precious metal clay. I love the feel of working with clay no matter what kind it is - to create jewelry as well as pottery.
